Recently I started listening to music I used to listen to while growing up. I don’t know if most people do this but it’s pretty fun getting nostalgic. I remember laying in my bed and reading for hours and hours on end. Not dissimilar to my lifestyle choices now except I’m on a couch and not listening to music in the background while reading.
I started to mentally go through the books I was reading during this time period. Lots of science fiction, military space fiction, and fantasy books. Which are still my bread and butter to this day but thanks to a friend from Kansas I started reading some thrillers in 2010/2011. I don’t know how many hours I’ve spent over the years reading but I reckon it’s my number one hobby of all time ever. For a while, I’ve been unsure whether or not my Kindle or my GORUCK bag was my favorite purchase of the last 6 years. After careful consideration (lies) I’m going to say I’ve spent more time with my Kindle than I have GORUCKing over that time frame.
That’s if I had to choose.
But I realize now that it doesn’t matter. I can enjoy both items without it being a competition or one being detrimental to the other.
I started this post with the idea I’d go down memory lane but now I see that was better in my head than in actual content. But back to that summer. My sister came home from work with a giant box of books that all had the covers ripped off of them. She said she got them all for like $20 and I literally learned that you could not judge a book by the cover then. So I just grabbed a book, read the back and then just started reading. I think that’s how I learned to give a book 100 pages or so before I stop reading it if it’s not my jam. That’s how I came across a few book universes and I’m grateful for that. Guess I could tell her that but nah, she might make me babysit my nieces and nephew and I’m busy doing stuff. Like not babysitting. That’s a thing, right?
